Back in 1982 my friend the writer
Enrique Labrador Ruiz honored me with a text that included the
following: This peculiar artist who makes strong, complex
or illusory forms over feeble materials, never leaves his cobwebs
but to express storms, wrathful crucibles, armed saints.
More than twenty years later I am still trying to express storms,
obsessed with armed saints, fighting wrathful crucibles, all
the while entangled in my cobwebs.
For worse or for better, I was
born in Cuba and shaped by exile. There but for the grace of
God, we all go.
And yes, to quote el gran manco Orozco, I still believe
that art is knowledge at the service of emotion.
